Screw Press

product

Krofta Filter Press

product

The Krofta Screw Press is an economical and environmentally friendly sludge dewatering solution. It operates based on screw extrusion principles, utilizing the increasing screw diameter and pitch to generate a powerful squeezing force. This force, combined with the narrow gap between the floating and fixed rings, effectively separates solids from liquids, making it a highly efficient sludge dewatering machine.

Quatech Screw Press

product

The Quatech Screw Press is an economical and eco-friendly sludge dewatering machine. It is a new type of equipment that uses screw extrusion principles to achieve solid-liquid separation. The process involves strong squeezing forces generated by variations in the screw diameter and pitch, along with the small gap between the floating and fixed rings.

Typical applications for wastewater treatment plants include dewatering thickened or un-thickened waste activated sludge (WAS), digested sludge from aerobic or anaerobic processes, and dissolved air flotation (DAF) sludges. The Quatech Screw Press is also effective for dewatering liquid sludges from various industries, including municipal applications. For municipal or bio sludge applications, the press typically produces a dewatered sludge cake with 20% dry solids content. It is a simple, slow-moving device that achieves dewatering through continuous gravitational drainage.

How a Screw Press Works

A screw press dewaters sludge continuously by feeding it through a slowly rotating screw inside a cylindrical screen. As the screw's pitch decreases along its length, the sludge is progressively compressed, squeezing out water through the screen while the solid cake is discharged at the outlet. Polymer is typically dosed ahead of the press to flocculate solids and improve dewatering efficiency.

Unlike batch-operated filter presses, a screw press runs continuously at low RPM, which is why it consumes significantly less power and requires less manual operator attention.

Screw Press vs Filter Press

Both dewater sludge, but they suit different situations — screw presses excel at continuous-duty biological sludge, while filter presses achieve higher cake dryness for chemical/industrial sludge. Frequently Asked Questions — Screw Press

What is the price of a Screw Press in India?+
Screw press prices range from ₹5–8 Lakh for a small 1–5 kg DS/hr unit to ₹40–80 Lakh for large 200–500 kg DS/hr machines. Total installed system cost depends on polymer dosing, conveyors, and civil work — contact us for a project-specific quotation.
What cake dryness can a screw press achieve?+
Screw press machines typically achieve 18–25% dry solids content in the dewatered sludge cake. Actual results depend on sludge type (biological vs chemical), polymer dosing accuracy, and feed sludge consistency — our engineers help optimise dosing during commissioning.
Screw press vs. filter press — which should I choose?+
Screw presses run continuously with lower manpower and power needs, ideal for biological (STP) sludge. Filter presses are batch-operated but achieve higher cake dryness (up to 35–40%), often preferred for chemical/industrial sludge. See our detailed comparison guide on the blog for a full breakdown.
How much floor space and power does a screw press need?+
Screw presses are compact and vertical, needing significantly less floor space than a filter press of equivalent capacity, and typically consume 60–80% less power since they run continuously at low RPM rather than high-pressure batch cycles.
